Best friend tips

What makes someone a best friend? Is it the companionship they bring you when you’re feeling down? Or is it simply the presence of having someone you can relate to? Is it the fact that you can trust them? Or the trust you have that makes them the best?

A good friend knows all your secrets but a best friend has lived them with you.

I like that saying because it really can mean a lot and it is very true. I believe that a good friend is there for you if you fall on your face but a best friend will watch you fall, laugh in your face and then help you up. They will say “I told you so” when you are wrong they will say “you’re going to regret it” when your new boy isn’t right for you. They won’t be afraid to fight with you and say mean things about you when you’ve upset them or they’ve upset you because at the end of the day you both mean a lot to one another. A best friend will tell you anything and everything even if you don’t want to hear it. They will always look after you because you mean that much to one another.

One of my best friends and I got in a huge fight… it was truly a pathetic fight and we both know it. It started out with a rumor that was told and then it escalated into name calling and then more name calling and hurtful statements. Not to mention glares at each other. This fight lasted 2 days because Friday night we both realized how pathetic we were being. Moral of the story we got over it because we both love each other. We are like sisters and no fight is going to ruin that.

If you and your best friend are in a fight think about the following:

1.)    Is it worth the fight?

2.)    Take a step back, don’t say anything to anyone.

3.)    Think about what the fight is REALLY over.

4.)    Think again… is this fight WORTH losing my friend?

5.)    List everything you did wrong. Be honest. Usually both parties are at fault.

6.)    Apologize for everything you did wrong.

7.)    If you make up don’t pin the fight on other problems or concerns in the future.

8.)    Learn from the mistakes you both made.

9.)    Forgive and forget. But talk about what bothered you.

10.) Have a better friendship then before.

These steps are not that hard to follow. If you do I promise it will make everything so much better. Plus your friendship could end up even better than before and if you guys really talk about what bothered you it gives you a chance to learn what you did to hurt them.

Best friends aren’t just anyone they are the peers your age that mean the most to you, that you would do anything for. A person you are able to learn from and teach.

  1. This reminds me of the Facebook group: Put value into your friends. I'd rather have 4 quarters than 100 pennies. ;) #besties
